WHAT IS MOTORCYCLE CYLINDER?
Cylinder in a motorcycle is the place where the fuel-air mixture is compressed and burned to convert chemical energy to heat and mechanical energy to make the bike go. Just like in any other internal combustion engine. The engine might have only one cylinder or many. More than four is rare, though.
HOW TO SAFELY REMOVE A MOTORCYCLE CYLINDR?
· A high quality flex socket or flex adapter, six-point if possible as it is better for these high torque applications or 3/8ths inch drive crows feet.
·If the mallet treatment doesn't work, one of two things could be keeping it stuck. Really good gasket goo set for years. Or, maybe corrosion and aluminum oxide crystals built up between the studs and the bores they sit in (I'm assuming the motor has studs through the barrels and heads).
·Make sure you wear safety gloves in case things do slip, but more importantly make sure the socket is firmly in place around the cylinder base nut before beginning to turn. Turn slowly and watch for any movement – reseat the socket before continuing to turn if you notice any
movement.
·If you are sure all the bolts are out, then get a 10" piece of pine 2X4 and hold it against a set of fins that are all the same size, and give it a rap with a 2 lb hammer. Do that carefully around the head and see if it can get jarred free.
·A rubber mallet.Once the base nuts are loosened, make your way around the bike with the rubber mallet and give the cylinder a whack around its circumference with a slight upward angle. This will loosen up something that has been stuck in place for god only knows how long. This is a key step. Don’t pry the cylinders up with a screwdriver or other tool.
