What Is A Motorcycle Clutch?

April 09,2022

Perhaps, we have heard of clutch, but we don’t know what is exactly a clutch, and what it is used for. All we know is that it is an essential part of a vehicle. Today, let’s explain what is exactly a motorcycle starting clutch.

What Is A Motorcycle Clutch?

The clutch is a device between the engine and the gearbox. Its main function is to transmit or cut off the power of the engine. The purpose of transmitting power is to make the vehicle move forward. Cutting off power is usually to facilitate gear shifting. If the power is not cut off, it is difficult to synchronize the driving gear and the driven gear in the transmission, and it is not easy to shift.

In addition to this main function, the clutch also has a less prominent function, that is, when the vehicle suddenly encounters a large impact, it can slip between the active friction plate and the passive friction plate, alleviate the impact of external force on the engine to a certain extent, and thus protect the engine to a certain extent.

How To Correctly Use Motorcycle Clutch?

Firstly, start the motorcycle with the key, confirm that the gear is neutral, and then grasp the clutch. The left hand of the motorcycle is the clutch, and the front brake on the right. Ignite or start. When you hear the sound of the normal operation of the engine, you start to release the clutch slowly. You must release it slowly, otherwise it is very dangerous!

When you loosen it to a certain degree, you will feel the motorcycle moving forward, and then slowly accelerate. When the motorcycle runs, you can completely release the clutch!

When shifting gears, release the accelerator, grasp the clutch, step on the gear and release the clutch.

It's very simple to stop the car. Release the accelerator, step on the neutral gear first, and then step on the brake! After stopping, turn off the key and pull it out!

Methods To Judge Whether The Clutch Has A Problem?

  • When the engine speed remains unchanged, the driving speed is obviously lower than before;
  • During driving, when the engine speed increases, the speed change is not obvious;
  • Support the main support, keep the rear wheel off the ground, shift to gear 1, keep the accelerator low, slowly press the rear brake pedal, feel that the rear wheel starts braking, but the engine speed does not decrease significantly;
  • Judged by oil color. When changing the engine oil, there is a little gray material in the black engine oil, which can be judged as clutch wear. If the clutch is severely ablated, the engine oil is black gray mixture;
  • Judged by oil taste. The engine gives off abnormal burnt smell after overheating, or the engine oil has obvious burnt smell when changing the engine oil.
