What Are The Types Of Motorcycle Brake Pad?
April 08,2022
Everyone knows the importance of braking system to a car. This paper introduces some information about motorcycle brake pad.
What Are Brake Pads?
Automobile brake pad, also known as automobile brake skin, refers to the friction material fixed on the brake drum or brake disc rotating with the wheel. The friction lining and friction pad bear external pressure to produce friction, so as to achieve the purpose of vehicle deceleration.
The automobile brake pad is generally composed of steel plate, adhesive heat insulation layer and friction block. The heat insulation layer is composed of non heat transfer materials for heat insulation. The friction block is composed of friction materials and adhesives. When braking, it is squeezed on the brake disc or brake drum to produce friction, so as to achieve the goal of vehicle deceleration and braking.
Types Of Brake Pads
In terms of brake types, it can be divided into: brake pads for disc brakes and brake shoes for drum brakes. According to different materials, brake pads can be generally divided into asbestos type, semi-metallic type, less metal and ceramic brake pads.
Asbestos brake pad
Asbestos brake pads are common in drum brakes. Because asbestos fiber is characterized by high strength and high temperature resistance, it can meet the requirements of brake pads. Moreover, it is very cheap, and its ore resources are very rich. Because asbestos itself is insulated and has poor thermal conductivity, it will accumulate a lot of heat in the brake pad after repeated braking, and then it will produce what we often call serious heat attenuation and even brake failure.
"Semi metallic" compound brake pad
"Semi metallic" brake pads are mainly made of rough steel fibers or copper wires as reinforcing fibers and as important mixtures. This kind of wear-resistant brake pad is cheap for many vehicles.
Less metal brake pad
The braking effect of less metal brake pad is better than that of semi metal, which is not easy to make noise and damage the disc. Less metal is the material containing a small amount of iron, which is generally steel wool, so its production cost is higher than that of semi-metallic brake pads.
Maintenance Of Brake Pad
Under normal driving conditions, check the brake pads every 5000 kilometers, not only check the remaining thickness, but also check the wear state of the brake pads, whether the wear degree on both sides is the same, whether they can return freely, etc. if abnormal conditions are found, they must be handled immediately.
Some vehicles are equipped with brake pad alarm function. Once the wear limit is reached, the instrument will alarm and prompt to replace the brake pad. The brake pads that have reached the service limit must be replaced. Even if they can be used for a period of time, the braking effect will be reduced and the driving safety will be affected.
When replacing the brake pads, the brake wheel cylinder must be pushed back with a special tool. It is not allowed to press back with other crowbars, which will easily lead to the bending of the guide screw of the brake caliper and the jamming of the brake pad. After replacement, be sure to step on several brakes to eliminate the gap between the brake pad and the brake disc, resulting in no braking on the first foot, which is prone to accidents.
