What Is A Motorcycle Connecting Rod?
The motorcycle connecting rod kit is one of the most important parts of the motor because it transfers power from the piston to the crankshaft. The connecting rod must withstand great forces, including tension and pressure. Be sure to be light so that the engine can rotate at high speed. However, it is also one of the most stressed parts in the engine. The connecting rod will vibrate due to improper balance, which will shorten its service life. The connecting rod can improve and protect the power of the car, reduce the connecting rod of the car, and increase the accessories of the car.
types Of Motorcycle Connecting Rod
Ordinary bar
Ordinary connecting rods are used for in-line and opposed engines. The big end of the connecting rod is connected to the crank pin and is equipped with a bearing cap. The bearing cap is installed by bolts or studs at the end of the connecting rod. The connecting rod must be replaced in the same cylinder and in the same relative position to maintain proper fit and balance.
Front fork and blade lever
These types of connecting rods are used in V-type two cylinder motorcycle engines and V12 aircraft engines. In each pair of engine cylinders, a "fork" rod is divided into two parts at the big end, and a "blade" rod gradually tapers from the opposite cylinder to adapt to this gap in the fork. The system eliminates the rocking couple that occurs when the cylinder pair is balanced with the crankshaft.
In the arrangement of the large end bearing type, the fork rod has a single wide bearing sleeve extending over the entire width of the rod, including the center clearance.
The blade rod then runs directly outside the sleeve rather than on the crank pin. This causes the two rods to move back and forth, reducing the force and surface speed on the bearing. However, bearing speed is also reciprocating rather than continuous rotation, which is a major problem of lubrication.
Master-slave rod
Radial engines usually use master-slave connecting rods. In this system, a piston consists of a main rod directly connected to the crankshaft. Other pistons connect their connecting rods to a ring around the edge of the main rod.
The disadvantage of the master-slave connecting rod is that the stroke of the slave piston is slightly larger than that of the master piston, which increases the vibration of the V-type engine.
Billet bar
The billet connecting rod is made of steel or aluminum. Compared with other types of connecting rods, they are lighter, stronger and have a longer service life.
It is usually used in high-speed vehicles. Sometimes it is designed to reduce stress rise and easy access to the natural texture of the blank.
Cast rod
These types of connecting rods are preferred and designed by manufacturers because they can handle the load of inventory engines.
The cast bar has low production cost and can not be used in high horsepower applications. The cast rods have an obvious joint in the middle to separate them from the forged rods.
Forging rod
Some connecting rods are made by forging. These types of connecting rods are made by pressing a piece of material into the shape of the end. Depending on the required properties, the material can be steel alloy or aluminum.
Commonly used steel alloys are chromium and nickel alloys. The final product is not designed to be fragile. Therefore, nickel or chromium alloy increases the strength of the connecting rod.
Power metal connecting rod
The connecting rod is also designed with power metal because it is a suitable choice for the manufacturer. It is made of a metal powder mixture, which is pressed into the mold and heated to a high temperature. The mixture is made into a solid form.
It may require light processing, but the product is basically from the finished mold. Powdered metal rods are cheaper than steel and stronger than cast rods.
