Protective Measures for Electroplated Motorcycle Parts

June 15,2022

Most corrosive solutions of electroplated coatings are stable in organic acids and can maintain gloss for a long time. However, the electrodeposited coating will be corroded under the following conditions, which requires attention and measures to be taken for protection.

  1. Avoid contact with salt, hydrochloric acid, bittern and other substances. Because the coating is easy to dissolve in the above substances, avoid contact with 84 disinfectant, bleaching powder, toilet cleaning and other substances.

  1. Motorcycles should not be stored in places with gas, coal ball stove and coal smoke. This is because carbon monoxide (CO) will make the coating produce gray black network cracks and rust.

  1. Pay attention to the method of wiping. Normally, the electroplating layer of motorcycle parts only needs to be wiped with neutral engine oil once a week, such as sewing engine oil. Pay attention to clean the dirt with a soft cloth each time you wipe the oil; Clean the dirt with clean water after driving in rainy days; Then wipe with a soft cloth, and finally wipe with engine oil. Do not touch the oil on the paint surface and the tire when wiping the oil, so as to prevent the paint surface from losing luster and the tire from aging. If there is water mist inside the instrument and other coatings, dry them with an electric hair dryer before wiping them.

  1. For the galvanized surface on the strip, a dark gray alkaline zinc carbonate film is formed on its surface, which can effectively prevent the internal metal from corrosion. Therefore, it is not necessary to clean and polish the dark gray galvanized surface when wiping, and some neutral engine oil can be wiped for protection.

  1. For the wiping of plastic electroplated parts, you can only use a soft cloth dipped in clean water (warm water), not oil, because that will damage the coating of plastic electroplated parts.

  1. For plated parts such as exhaust pipe, fender and rim, do not brush dirt with a wire brush, because the wire of the wire brush will scratch the coating surface. After loosening the dirt with clean water, wipe it according to the above method. If it is not loose, use a wooden bar to gently remove the scale.
