How to Maintain Brake Pads
September 07,2022
In the braking system of a car, the brake pads are the most critical safety part. The quality of all braking effects is that the pads play a decisive role.
Brake pads are generally composed of steel plates, bonded heat insulation layers and friction blocks. The thermal insulation layer is composed of non-heat-conducting materials for the purpose of thermal insulation; the friction block is composed of friction materials and adhesives. When braking, it is squeezed on the brake disc and the brake drum to generate friction, so as to achieve the purpose of decelerating and braking the vehicle.
Because of the importance of brake pads. Therefore, its daily maintenance is particularly important.
Precautions for maintaining brake pads
- Under normal driving conditions, check the pads once every 40,000 kilometers. Check not only the remaining thickness, but also the state of brake pad wear. Including but not limited to whether the degree of wear on both sides is the same, whether the return is free, etc. Any abnormal situation must be dealt with immediately.
- Be sure not to wait for the friction material to be worn away before replacing the brake pads. In this case, it is very dangerous, it is easy to wear out the brake disc and cause the brake to fail!
- When replacing, replace the pads provided by the original factory. Only in this way can the best braking effect between the brake pads and the brake disc be achieved with minimal wear.
- When replacing the pads, the cylinder must be pushed back with a special tool. Do not use other crowbars to press back hard. It will easily bend the guide screws of the brake caliper and cause them to be stuck.
- After replacing the pads, be sure to step on the brakes a few times. This is mainly to eliminate the gap between the brake pads and the brake disc.
- After the brake pad is replaced, it needs to be run-in for about 2000 kilometers to achieve the best braking effect. The newly replaced ones must be driven with caution.
